Benny died after consuming chicken jerky treats from Canyon Creek Ranch Brand, a company of Waggin' Train, LLC., i.e., Nestle Purina.
After our Yorkie suffered and died from consuming Canyon Creek Ranch Brand chicken jerky dog treats from China, we started shopping at Whole Foods Market. Their slogan is “Selling The Highest Quality Natural & Organic Products“.
Apparently that is not true. There is nothing natural or organic about chicken imported from China.
After shopping at Whole Foods Market for weeks, we decided to stroll down the pet food isle. When doing so, we discovered Whole Foods Market is selling the same tainted Chinese chicken jerky by DOGSWELL®.
DOGSWELL® uses the same excuse as all of the others.
China is a country where dark meat is more popular due to its inherent fat and flavor. DOGSWELL® believes it is less wasteful to obtain our white meat in China where it is abundant, rather than sourcing it domestically, where white meat is less available and held at a premium.
Here is the response from Whole Foods Market’s “Global Customer Information Specialist”.
Thank you for contacting Whole Foods Market with your concerns. We are aware of the FDA advisories regarding chicken jerky treats from China and we support the work the FDA is doing to monitor consumer concerns. We will continue to follow the FDA’s progress on this issue very closely.
Whole Foods Market received confirmation from Dogswell that they have comprehensive testing protocols in place to ensure the quality of their products. At this time, Dogswell has not been named in any recalls and Whole Foods Market will continue to carry Dogswell treats. We are also actively encouraging Dogswell to seek out domestic sources of chicken for their products. Dogswell has extensive information about product safety available on their website, http://www.dogswell.com/faq. We hope you’ll reach out to them directly if you have any questions or concerns.
Choosing a diet for a pet is a personal decision. Dogswell is one among many brands that we sell, and we offer a variety of pet products so that customers can make choices based on their vet’s recommendations and their own personal criteria and expectations.
