Dogs Die From Chicken Jerky Made In China

This is disturbing. The FDA continues to caution consumers about a potential association between the development of illness in dogs and the consumption of chicken jerky products. The products—also called chicken tenders, strips, or treats—are imported from China.

The FDA continues to receive complaints of sick dogs that their owners or veterinarians associate with eating chicken jerky products. FDA issued a cautionary warning to consumers in September 2007.

Australian news organizations report that the University of Sydney is also investigating an association between illness in dogs and the consumption of chicken jerky in Australia. At least one firm in Australia has recalled their chicken jerky product and the recall notification stated the product was manufactured in China.

What is FDA doing? So far the FDA has done testing and has not identified any contaminant.

What are you doing? Stop giving your pets any chicken jerky from China. I have stopped giving my dogs any treats from China. If you walk around Pet Food Club — almost every damn treat is made in China. And now the packaging is getting tricky because it says “distributed in the U.S.” That means nothing. I want to know where it’s made. I want to know where it’s sourced.

Some products that are very expensive are still made in China. It’s written in the tiniest font on the package.

According to a Feb. 15 article on Truth about Pet Food blog, there have been 7 dead pets in 5 days that the author Susan Thixton is aware of. One pet owner lost three healthy dogs in three months.

On a Blog Talk Radio Show, Ms. Thixton called in to talk to a former FDA investigator who said that, “The FDA doesn’t make this information public because if consumers knew they would rebel against the manufacturer (China); especially considering the political climate we have with China now, they wouldn’t want that. The FDA – rather than taking the consideration of the animal’s health first (or human health) – they think politics first.”

There you have it. Don’t buy treats or dog food made in China.

I just googled “consumer complaints” + the brand of dog food that I feed my dogs. And it gives me pause.

Dang ever since I bought these at Costco for our dog she’s been ill and completely covered in a full body rash. Damn China products!!!!! So glad this was posted online as our dog isn’t dead and we’ve now thrown out the remaining half of the bag of these contaminated treats.
